Take Myself Less Seriously. And Take Myself More Seriously.

How about you? Do you need to take yourself more seriously and less seriously?

In a discussion of happiness, I find that very often, opposites are both true.

    The thing I try to take most seriously about myself is who I’m becoming. Other things, like saving face, deserve less seriousness than I sometimes give it.

    I would agree with this. I have started taking myself more seriously in terms of what I model for my children and what I believe I can contribute to the world. I have started to take myself less seriously when it comes to what others think of me. Way less identity management and way more authenticity. The older I get, the more I realize everyone is a sloppy mess in one way or another and it takes too much energy to convince people otherwise.

    Yes, life is seldom just black or white. That’s why it’s a bit sad that so many want to tell us exactly how things are or what to do. The net is flooded by lists of “how to”, easy to write, often far from reality.

    Since I had a baby I started taking my happiness project very seriously, if I am happy I can project that happiness to my daughter. I started taking myself less seriously about our clean apartment or my once manicured nails…but I started taking myself more seriously about not keeping clutter or mess around the apartment.

    Here’s a fun, harmless one: Take a peanut, and bite it in half, carefully. Even more carefully, pry the halves apart. At the bottom of the peanut, the “seedling” will look exactly like a little bunny face!
